The most popular types of flooring these days in the market are laminate, hybrid and engineered timber flooring. We’ll let you in on a few tips in keeping your floors looking good as new.

Laminate flooring:

Laminate floors are one of the cheapest flooring on the market with the look and feel of wooden floors. Laminate consists of high-density fibre core boards which are compressed tightly with a photographic print and wear layer on the top. Some of the things you need to keep in mind while cleaning laminate floorboards are the following:

Do:

  • Wipe up if you spill something on them straight away
  • Use soft cloths or microfiber mops to clean the laminate floorboards.
  • Use a damp mop and make sure that water isn’t dripping from it.
  • Try to use furniture pads so that you don’t leave scratch marks.
  • You can use PH neutral cleaners or laminate cleaners to clean your floorboards but always ask your floor supplier if you’re not sure.

  • Vacuum with soft hardwood compatible head.

Don’t:

  • Don’t use a mop that is drenched with water.
  • Never use abrasive cleaning tools so that you don’t scratch up your laminate floorboards.
  • Try avoiding using pine-scented cleaners as they could leave soapy residue and any cleaners that say they will make your flooring shiny as you have a waxy build-up.
  • Never use Murphy’s oil as it can leave streaks on your laminate floorboards.
